SCH EXPANDS TO INTERNATIONAL PROPORTIONS!
Brazilian Children's Home in
Cabreuva, Sao Paulo, Brazil
The world is a large mission field. Southern
Christian Home and its Board made the decision in 1998 to seek out other
areas to apply their years of experience in child care. Two Board members
and the Director of SCH visited a Home called Lar Cristão in Rio de Janeiro,
Brazil to see if we could assist.
Lar Cristão has been in existence for over 20
years and operated with the help of sister Alma Smith, who has lived in
Brazil since 1957. She and her husband, Arlie, started working for the Lar
in the 1970s.
The 31 children at the Lar range in age from
two years to 16 years of age. Due to limited funds, the Lar needed much
repair and really lacked adequate space for the 31 children. A new board for
the Home has been established and the decision to move the Home to the State
of Sao Paulo, Brazil was agreed upon.
Brother Alan Dutton and his lovely wife
Maria, have donated 18 acres on their small farm in Itu, Brazil for the new
location. In the near future, Lar Cristão will be relocated to that farm.
Funds are presently being raised to build adequate housing in Itu. In 1999,
$100,000 was raised for payment towards the house. This year, we will be
raising an additional $100,000 in order to complete this work. Earlier this
year, Lar Cristão was renamed Brazilian Children's Home.
